After completing the deleted files scan, the deleted files are displayed in an explorer-like interface, with the folders on the right pane and the files and folders on the left pane. Depending on the scan method you picked, files are organized in folders according to the original parent, or according to the file type.
When browsing the deleted files, you can use all the familiar conventions for browsing files and folders with the Windows Explorer:
To go up one level in the folder tree, click on the
(Up) button or select Up from the View menu.
To go back to the previous folder, click on the
(Back) button or select Back from the View menu. To return to the original folder, where you started going backwards, click on the
(Forward) button or select Forward from the View menu.
In a long list of files, you can jump to a file beginning with a particular letter, by pressing on that letter on the keyboard.
To sort the file list on the right pane, click on a column header to sort according to that column. Click again to alternate between ascending and descending sort order.
In the folder list on the left pane, you can use the keyboard arrows to expand and collapse folder trees. Click on the right arrow to expand a folder tree, and click on the left arrow to collapse a folder tree.
For every file or folder in the right or left panes, you can click on the right mouse button to display the context-menu, to easily access options that are relevant to that particular file or folder. Read on for explanations on the various commands.
After performing any scan, you can redo the scan and refresh the file list by pressing F5 or selecting Refresh from the View menu.
Easy-Undelete 3.0 displays only regular folders, deleted folders and deleted files. It won't display non-deleted files.
In the folder and file lists, deleted folders have a
icon and non-deleted folders have a
icon.
If the scan returned too many files for you to comfortably browse, or if you want to quickly locate a particular file or folder, you can use the search feature to find files or folders according to their name or other attributes.
Open the Search dialog: select the folder you want to search inside, and select Search… from the File menu; or click on the
(Search) button; or press F3; or right-click the folder and select Search from here… from the context-menu.
in the File or folder name: field, specify a specific filename or a filename mask using a wildcard.
Available wildcards are the “?” (question mark) character and the “*” (asterisk) character. The “?” character stands for one unknown character, and the “*” character stands for one or more unknown characters.
For e.g., searching for “picture*” will return all files that begin with the word “picture”, with any extension, because the “*” character stands for any combination of one or more character.
Click on Find now to begin searching. After the search is complete, the search results will appear in the tree pane on the right, and will be automatically selected.
You can perform additional searches without losing the previous search results. Each search will be kept in the left pane until you close it. To close a search, right click its name in the left pane and select Close from the context-menu.
In the search results, the containing folder for every file is displayed in the second column. To open that folder, select Go to containing folder from the View menu, or right click on the file and select Go to containing folder from the context menu.
In the Search dialog, you can refine your search by specifying other file attributes:
If you want to change the folder to search inside of, you can type a new path in the Look in: field, or click on Browse to select a different folder.
If you want to specify a maximum or minimum file size, switch to the Size & Date tab, check the Specify size check-box, select At least or At most from the drop-down box to specify a minimum or maximum range, and type the size in kilobytes in the size field.
If you want to specify a date when the file was last modified, switch to the Size & Date tab and check the Specify date modified check-box. If you want to find files or folders that were modified in the last two days, select the During the last two days radio-button. Otherwise, select the Between radio-button and specify the date range. You can type the date manually, or click the down-pointing arrow to select the dates from a calendar.
If you want to search for files according to their content, switch to the Content tab. If you want to find files that contain a Unicode string, select the Containing text radio-button, and type or paste the string in the text box. If you want to match according to letter case, check the Match case check-box. If you want to find files that contain a hex string, select the Containing Hex string radio-button, and type or paste a hex string in the text box.
To begin the search, click Find now.
